SEO Myth: domain ranking
Our SEO experts were navigating through the interweb when we stumbled across an interesting download from Hubspot called, “20 SEO Myths to Leave Behind in 2020.” Now, that sounds like the type of content we want to read!
As we were scrolling through, one in particular grabbed our attention for several different reasons. Domain authority. Yes, domain authority is important, but it is a prediction of your website’s overall rank. It is not the final say at all. One of the biggest SEO myths out there is this one!
No, it will not. There is a common misunderstanding that a website that has a couple of years or even 10 years of experience will be ranking because they have been out there for years and years.
But, did you implement any SEO strategies? No?
The website will then not be ranking for anything but branded keywords. Google does not give an older website the ranking over a newer one simply because it is older.
OMG Austin provides Austin SEO Services to all our clients, and we are here to tell you, an older website will not simply rank off domain authority and here is the breakdown.
What is domain authority?
A Domain Authority, DA, is the search engine ranking score that was developed by Moz to predict how well a website will rank in search engines, specifically Google’s search engine ranking pages! A DA score predicts a score that ranges between one to 100 with a higher score often correlating with a higher ranking in search engines.
The main point out of that first paragraph is that a DA score only predicts the ranking strength of a website in Google’s search engine. This is not a one stop shop all and all hope ends because a website is ranking two.
The thing with an older website that has never had Austin SEO Services implemented is that the DA score will be low.
This is why.
To garner attention and credibility with Google (the whole point of ranking) is to implement a technical SEO strategy. The first step is a website that has keywords. Yes, Google is one of the smartest search engines and machines out there, but Google still needs guidance on what to do with your website.
A company needs the following notions on their website:
The biggest notion to help increase a DA score is to implement a backlink strategy to the website! A backlink is a referring link to your website or another website. A great example is our headline, “What is domain authority?” This links back to a reputable website with a high domain authority. That is backlinking 100. Thanks for coming to our lecture. All of the following bulleted points have to be implemented, tracked, optimized and followed through or a website will not consistently build up credibility with Google.
There it is, one of the biggest SEO myths debunked! As a company who thought DA was the end all, call us for a free consultation on how we can optimize your website to increase your overall ranking and even DA score!
